All students pursuing a minor in Sustainability Studies must declare the minor with the College of Liberal Arts, preferably within the first semester of taking courses towards the minor.

Note: if you declared your minor prior to May 2020, click here to see your requirements.

A Sustainability Studies minor consists of fifteen credit hours distributed as follows (click on the links to see details):

  • 3 credits: SUST 2000 (or HONR 1027), Introduction to Sustainability (offered every semester)
  • 3 credits: SUST 5000, Senior Capstone in Sustainability (offered in spring only)
  • 9 credits: approved electives in three of the four distribution fields, including at least 6 credits at the 3000 level or above.

Courses taken in fulfillment of the College Core or other majors and minors may not be counted toward the Sustainability Studies minor.

We strongly recommend that students declaring a Sustainability Studies Minor complete a Program of Study to help them plan their schedule and ensure that they will meet all the requirements for the minor.

Completing your minor this semester? Please complete an exit interview to record your experience and help us to improve the program in the future.

If you have questions, consult Mr. Ross Blair, Advisor for the Academic Sustainability Program.
